چکیده
Abstract Regarding mechanics, wood is one of the most efficient materials available. Due to its unique combination composite and cellular microstructure, it exhibits superb specific mechanical properties which exceed many man-made materials. However, concerning absolute properties, often inferior metals novel engineered composites. Since are strongly correlated with density, densification a promising pathway towards improved mechanics. Spruce, beech poplar were densified in two-step process. First, amorphous polymers partially extracted according an alkaline (AL) organosolv (OS) protocol. Subsequently, delignified veneers by hot pressing tangential direction. After densification, average densities increased 1.00–1.20 g cm ?3 . FTIR analysis confirmed chemical changes, mostly bands attributed hemicelluloses lignin, chemically treated hot-pressed veneers. To evaluate modification process regarding tensile bending characterized revealed results. Compared untreated control specimens, stiffness strength tested tension improved, regardless species pretreatment. OS treatment stiffness, up 40 GPa, whereas AL strength, 300 MPa. Set-recovery tests showed, that samples exhibited better dimensional stability compared H 2 O-soaked compressed specimens. 24 h water soaking resulted excessive thickness swelling. This might be major drawback should considered material selection

this research has been conducted to investigate the influence of steam temperature and densification percentage on withdrawal strength of nail and screw joints as well as flexural strength in compressed wood of eastern cottonwood (populus deltoeides). for this purpose 15 healthy standing trees of eastern cottonwood were selected from dr. bahramnia forest located in shasht-kola (gorgan). the fla...
متن کاملApplication of Microwave Heating for Acetylation of Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and Poplar (Populus hybrids) Wood
Microwave and conventional acetylation of wood was carried out to determine its efficacy on the material properties. Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and poplar (Populus hybrids) samples with dimensions 14 mm × 14 mm × 14 mm were impregnated using acetic anhydride, and chemical reactions were initiated by microwave and conventional heating. The microwave acetylation process was carried out using labo...
متن کاملEffects of Air Relative Humidity and Temperature on Photodegradation Processes in Beech and Spruce Wood
Spruce and beech samples were irradiated by UV light in humid (100% air humidity) and dry conditions to clarify the effects of vapor on photodegradation. UV-irradiated samples were also soaked in distilled water for comparison. The color change and the IR absorption spectra were measured. The wet condition generated considerably greater discoloration than did the dry condition. The intensity of...
متن کاملAssessing the flexural strength changes in decayed wood of Iranian beech (Fagus orientalis) by using of nondestructive stress wave method
The aim of this study was to evaluate sound and decayed wood of Iranianbeech (Fagus orientalis) with a nondestructive stress wave method. Wood samples, with dimensions of 9 by 19 by 200 mm were decayed in laboratory soil-bed tests, based on European pre-standard ENV-807. The decay was evaluated by measuringbending dynamic modulus of elasticity (MOEd) and longitudinal dynamicmodulus of elasticity ...
